If Nickel Creek wants a top 10 Country hit, they need to release Jealous of the Moon and do a video. Its such a beautiful song.

I don't think it's a top 10 Country hit they are going for at all.
Just my opinion...

I believe that the best song in my opinion is When In Rome

I think it's interesting that they talk about a country hit. It seems so weird to place it under the catagory of country because it no longer sounds like country, and it never has. It has always been more bluegrass and now it is something completly different. Which is alright with me. Whenever i try to tell my friends about Nickel Creek, i never know how to describe their music. It's just to hard!!

I really can't see this being played on modern country radio. You can hear Gary Louris' input in the chorus of the song as it sounds like the Jayhawks harmonies. Definitely closer to alt-country or Americana or whatever label you wish to slap on it. Just good music, way too good for the country format.

I concur. I'm glad that they're getting some airplay, but I wonder if the country stations are the right venue to do it? Well, now that I think about it...country is a safe place to start and then they can spill over into alternative or something a little more obscure...

Well I am saying country because that is where it translates the best, I am sure the reason why most of us love NC is that they are so eclectic in their musical tastes. They reach so many audiences with a bluegrass tune here and a gospel tune there. Then they blow you away with Celtic mix of Jacksmith and go alternative with Spit on a Stranger. Jealous of the Moon probably would not play well on Top 40, it would do better on Adult Contemp, but its folksy sound really translates well to country. Thats all I am saying. I do hate to box them into one genre. It is so refreshing to see a group that is so idependent to release an album of 14 diverse songs that we have to have this debate. I wish there was an all Nickel Creek channel on the radio. (My Wife thinks there is when I am running the car stereo)

Incidentally if I were to pick a song to go to the Top 40 stations with it would be Helena... such a radical departure even for Nickel Creek.

All the songs on the new album are flippin awesome but i don't see any of them becoming country hits b/c i just don' think any of the hard core country fans will think of nickel creek as a country band. But Jealous of the Moon has some of the best possiblities!

Jealous of the Moon is beautiful and pretty inspiring too. Some of the lyrics speak alot, makes you wonder who or what they were written for

I really enjoy Somebody Like You. I think it's the very subtle, thinly veild and blunt insults lol, talking on the sarcasm level it's exactly how I would talk to someone I didn't like.

That's a good one too. I like the line, I hope you find someone your height, so you can see eye to eye with someone as small as you

that made me giggle, just so sarcastic

I wonder if Best of Luck would get rock play....

This album like This Side is growing on me steadily. I LOVE most of the songs. I tend to skip over Stumptown because it seems out of place with the hillbilly sort of Bluegrass.

The person who called itself Was a Fan mustn't have followed them closely, heard them live or read anything about them. Chris is obsessed with innovation. He draws from Bach to Mahler and every classical composer in between. That won't keep you kicking out New Grass for long.

I do wonder what Alison Krauss makes of the new music. They have left her cozy, gentle world and have ventured into the wild. Having been fortunate enough to see them live twice, (and been to Waltkins Family Hours) we knew this was was coming, and yet it is more than we could imagine, as always with these beautfiul musicians.

My only concern is that they have made their outreach trickier and will find it more difficult in the future. Then again their idols are not CMT or MTV regulars.

Bela, Edgar, Stuart, John Lennon, Johann Sebastian and Gustav and all their idols must be very proud.[noise]

Helena is turing out to be my favorite track on the album. I just don't know if Sugar Hill has the juice to get a single on top 40 radio. It does have that symphonic Elenor Rigby/Bittersweet Symphony vibe to it which might appeal to more adventurous program directors though.
