That Rocks...I wonder if they are gonna like sit down and talk about the new cd or if they are just gunna play a song. Cause When Jason Mraz was on the Tonight Show he just played Wordplay and then the show went off.

Probably just play When in Rome and that will be it. It's rare when musicians get to sit and talk on any of the late night shows.

Just a reminder. Tomorrow(Tuesday the 9th) is their Tonight Show appearance.

I wish I lived in the States - I'd love to be able to have CMT and be able to see Nickel Creek and Glen (sometimes together) on things like the Tonight Show. I've only ever seem them twice on TV over here - once performing 'Should've Known Better' on Later with Jools Holland and for about 7 seconds during a documentary about Dolly Parton. At least they're going to be doing some radio shows over here I guess - maybe I'm just greedy!

And tonight's broadcast will be in HD. It'll be the first time I've seen them that way!

Do you think they'll look different in HD? He says quite seriously.
Jimmie
08-09-2005, 06:29 PM
Well, of course they will. Isn't that the whole idea? They'll be much clearer, crisper, and better defined. Even the audio should be better.
Of course, all of that assumes that you watch the HD broadcast on an HD set. The standard broadcast will still look, well, standard. <g>

Ugggggg! I missed them on Leno!
Any idea how to TIVO them on my wishlist so I can catch whatever programs they are on?
PrincessNic

Yeah, I have a wishlist for NC on my TIVO also. It didn't record it because in the listing for the showo they spelled Nickel Creek's name wrong. They spelled it Nicklecreek.
But if you want to TIVO them in the future put them in on your wishlist and chose to automatically record whenever they are on. It is the best feature on TIVO!

Ahhhh! that makes sence!
I know I can't add them as a wishlist via actor so I did it as 'keywords'. Will that pick up NC on any shows they were on? I had them on my wishlist and was totally bummed I missed them on Leno.

It will hopefully (barring any problems) record any shows they are on from now on. Maybe even if Leno reruns...you might be able to catch it again. Remember they are going to be on Conan and Second Cup Cafe (on CBS) next month so keep a look out. And remember to chose automatically record so that it will record no matter what. Hope that helps.

According to vh1, NC will be appearing in a program on the Sundance channel in September. Does anyone know if this is a new program or an old one?

I am not sure. I know there was an independent film that was at a film festival I saw last year...that might be that. If that is the case it wouldn't be new. I didn't get to see it when I was at the film festival, so I wish I had the sundance channel to be able to see it!

It's several years old. It's part of a series of four short films by Gillian Grisman (David Grisman's daughter).

I hate to say it, but the last time NC was to be on The Hot List Katrina bumped them.
I'm afraid they're going to be sunk by Rita this time. [shock]
** Just noticed the date of the above post. It was the Hot List which was bumped by Katrina.
Never mind....

Yeah, I never did get to see that episode of the Hot List. Does anyone know if it aired or if it will or what?? And hopefully, their CBS Early Show appearance and the Conan thing will not get bumped for Rita coverage. Darn these hurricanes.
Sneezy II
09-23-2005, 03:05 PM
For those in the line of Rita and us Creeksters, it looks as though the Hurricane is weakening and may not be nearly so devastating and therefore regular programming may be left in place. Let's hope so for everyone's sake.

Chris'll be stoked - he was telling the London crowd what a big fan of 'The Office' the band are. They even did a burst of 'Free Love on the Free Love Highway' for us! Once again, wishing I lived in the States so I got to see all this :(

Anyone else have a hard time hearing Sean's guitar? It seems as if they were having sound problems. Or perhaps it was just my telly...

09-24-2005, 02:27 PM
I think Chris was really nervous. Especially in the first verse. He had no control of his voice. It might well have beem because of the company they were keeping with Ricky Gervais and Stephen King. It's my opinion that real artists can get nervous more easily than non-artists.
I just wish they could be playing Scotch and Chocolate on these TV gigs.
Meghan Narser
09-24-2005, 06:04 PM
Chris also was slightly sick (Sick is the term I use whenever anything is wrong) Sara said he's been having trouble with his voice and she felt bad that he had to sing on national TV and at an Ungodly hour. I think he was just trying to experiment in a way that let him sound good with his lack of voice but at the same time is very different than what we are used to.
I also though the sound was a little off.
Sneezy II
09-24-2005, 06:27 PM
I hope it's not technique or lack of which is causing problems. It seemed like nerves to me. I've been singing a long time and know the problem well.
Poor guy..... I hope it is illness. I'll keep him in my thoughts
Meghan Narser
09-24-2005, 06:51 PM
What I meant by experimenting, is he was trying to work with the voice (or rather lack of voice) he had at that moment.
I'm having trouble getting thoughts across today.
Sneezy II
09-24-2005, 07:03 PM
I understand experimenting. I just wonder if maybe being unsure of what will come out of his mouth might be making him anxious.
He may be oversinging. He's got to sing an awful lot of new, more powerful music with WSTFD. A singer can harm his voice oversinging. A technique is essential when problems arise from having to sing so much. And also essential - as John Mayer says - is hydrating. :)

He had one heck of a cough when he was over here (though it didn't seem to effect his performance) - it sounds like one of those awful ones that just can't be shaken easily. It's no wonder though, with things as hectic as they have been for the band - they really need some downtime so Chris can rest, drink lots of hot toddies and recover.

09-24-2005, 08:13 PM
I though they sounded a little off as well.
But he sure looked fine when they were finished, and well, when he was playing his mandolin he looked pretty happy too.

Before I read on myspace that Chris wasn't feeling well, I watched their Conan performance and thought everything was a little weird. But it was still good, just weird. There was a part towards the end of the song that they did a camera view of Sean and Chris singing and they looked as though they were going to get a close up of Sean and he had this look on his face like don't come in for a close up. I don't know if it was just me or whatever but he looked like as they were about to he got his focus off of the camera and started looking upwards a bit. Now like I said I don't know if this was just me or whatever, but I kind of wished they would have done a close-up :). Now that I just babbled I will let someone else.

It is this website that you can create a profile and do blogs and stuff. You can have friends and other things like that. Just go to myspace.com and sign up then do a search for Nickel Creek and the actual page for them is about 4 or 5 listings down. It is really fun so I would suggest checking it out.

Check out the news section on the .com site. The update from 9/7/05 has a link to their myspace page, so I would assume that means it's legitimate. :)

Yeah that quote is in my signature! Hydrating like a rock star is something very important that I don't really recall seeing Chris do that often during shows. Hope he recovers before I see them in Atlanta. I accidentally taped the wrong channel the night Conan came on, and I'm knid of glad I missed it; I might have been disappointed. <><

There is actually at least one fake Nickel Creek site on MySpace. I tried to subscribe to one for the longest time and never got accepted, then I saw the link for the real one on the news page and I got added as a friend right away.

It is so interesting that you mention this, because I thought the same thing regarding Chris' voice. He seemed a bit under the weather, and I thought he did a good job of disguising it by singing the song a bit different. I also thought I caught a look of sympathy or two from Sara.

Not sure when they'll be on TV again, but I must say that I've been really dissappointed by their appearances thus far. I agree with Friendly that they should play Scotch & Chocolate, or anything else for that matter....don't get me wrong, When In Rome rocks, and hits very hard on the album, but I think it really loses something on TV, or when you're not seeing it live....I feel like their instruments don't sound full on TV.....plus, it's weird to see them all dressed up. I think it's a good look, but makes them a bit stiff....I'm used to seeing Chris jumping around and cutting loose, Sara swaying and dancing on stage, and Sean, well...being totally into the song he's jamming on.....I think they need to slip back into their concert clothes and show the TV audiences what a Nickel Creek show is really about!

He really does work his voice extremely hard. Especially with the harder tone he takes with some of the new material. He has to strain harder to sing them, which puts a lot of added stress on his vocal chords.

I agree. And a cough is a sympton of oversinging I'm afraid.
Take care now Chris!
