Well, after five+ years I finally decided to join the minions and enter the fray. My name is Steven and I am far from a NEW fan. I have seen NC 23 times over the past 4 years, and am chomping at the bit for this tour, as I'm sure are all of you.
A friend of mine that works at the HOB in Sandiego already has my tix for the shows there in December, and I should be at the Wilturn show in Los Angeles. I was at the Amoeba records show on the ninth as well.

Sorry, I sort of feel like I am in an interview and that I had to lay down my credentials. That being said, what a great new record, eh??

As i bring my first post to a close, a question: Are there plans for a solo record from Sara?? Wouldn't that be lovely.

On that note, go, listen, and enjoy haveing a NEW favorite song with every go round. for troday, It is a tie between Helena and Besto of Luck (but how can 'Scotch and Chocolate' not always be there???).

Heres to chatting with you folks more often (glasses clink).

your credentials are approved sir (at least by me) welcome to the board!
man 23 times? i couldn't've seen them that many times if i had made overnight trips. towns down here are so much more spread out. hmph.
i am sorry, it seems weird cause everyone (NC included) has said Jealous of the Moon was their most iffy song to put on the record... and its my most played. and i am usually (read, always) NOT a country person. but it speaks most to my personal situation. so while its not my favourite (favourites change daily as you said) its my most often played.
hope you enjoy it here, and for a random piece of information... my name is Rhiannon and i like to be parenthetical! :D

Congrats on joining the discussion. What made you decide to after so long? Just curious....

Don't know anything specific about Sara's recording deal other than one was announced.

And like you I come up with new faves all the time. I just love the whole thing. Even my least fave Stumptown is now a joyous change of pace and I love it too. First and Last Waltz was the last track I warmed to. Then when Chris explained how important it is leading into Helena I came to love it too. It's eery and sets up the tone really well.

Then you knew they knew that....

First and last Waltz is wonderfully bleak and dreary. Definately a great rainy day song.

As for what made me finally join, I don't honestly know if I can answer that with a definate. I am really board with most music these days, and the friends that I have listen to predominately the same type of music, new stuff like: Bloc Party, the Kaiser Chiefs, etc...... (not that it is all bad.) I however go for the stuff that lingers, stuff that will be here next decade, stuff I can show my kids and not blush. does that make sense??

Nickle Creek are what has moved me from my first listen. The side projects are also great (I have both of Seans and Chris's, and the Mutual admiration society disc, as well as other things that they have helped out with, such as Ron Block (from Alison Krauss), etc...... Simply put, it is timeless and beautiful and forceful without being forceful...... eh, what?

Oh well, I thought it might be fun to cohabitate with like minded music folk. I trust that it will be a grand adventure.

First and last Waltz is wonderfully bleak and dreary. Definately a great rainy day song. So true. And I came here for the same reason you did. I wanted to share my feelings about NC with others who felt the same way. :)

When Chris introduced the F & LW to the Largo audience he said it would seque into Helena, which is what it does on the CD. Again I think The Beatles influence. Abbey Road is one of my fave Beatles records and the last several songs seque one to the other without any particular connection. It just works.

Having read so much now on Chris' state of mind while recording and writing WSTFD we can see where First & Last Waltz may well have been about the brief marriage and it's demise. Helena is just a great way to vent as far as I can tell. And Chris says it's both not about him and yet somewhat about him.

I hope Chris finds himself in a happy relationship sometime soon, although it is bound to be painful to even try another committed relationship for a while. Meanwhile, he's got Sara as a perfect music mate and I imagine she being a wonderful confidante. Especially having read the Paste article. And of course Brother Sean will be there too.

Yeah, after being together and so close for so long I imagine it is hard to find anyone that Chris, Sean, or Sara will feel as close to as each other. They are closer than family.

I have often wondered where a solo Sarah Watkins album is!! I can't imagine a more wonderful side project for her to undertake. There are so many songs out there that seem such a perfect fit for her voice.... and it seems like she's working on writing some of her own stuff too, no?
Personally, I have always wanted to hear her cover the Aimee Mann song Invisable Ink. Check it out and tell me it wouldn't be perfect!!

I didn't realize that about Jealous of the Moon. I'm glad they put it on there then. It's the most powerful song on the record to me, which is saying something. And I also am not a country person, have never listened to it at all.

Although at the time, Why Should the Fire Die is enjoying its first time being the favorite. Took me a while to see how beautiful it is.
