Hey guys! I live in Franklin which is right outside of Nashville-so we are chocked full of musicians everywhere...anyway the other day I was at a party for my friend Katie's 22nd birthday and everyonr was sitting around playing songs and Katie's next door neighbor is the songwriter Gordon Kennedy (wrote Eric Clapton's Change the World and Bonnie Raitt's new single...etc) was at the party playing songs too. I was talking to him and he was looking at the mix cds I made for Katie and on it I had included stuff from Chris, Sean, and Nickel Creek...he told me that he really liked NC and he thought they were extremly talanted. Then he said he wrote a new Kennedy song for their new cd...sooo does anyone know which song on the new album was written by Gordon Kennedy? If you do let me know!!

[think] I don't know for sure which one he wrote but didn't he co-write a song with Wayne Kirkpatrick called Hanging By a Thread and isn't that the name of one of the songs on NC's new album? Maybe that's the one. I hope it is because when I heard it I thought that Chris would do a great job singing it. I can just hear his voice everytime I hear that song, especially on the chorus. Also, on Wayne's version, there is not really that much music to it (I mean it is very simple instrumentally) and I would love to see what NC could add to it. If anyone knows for sure please let us know![noise]

According to the album credits, none of the songs were written by Gordon Kennedy. Hanging by a thread is credited in the press kit to Chris Thile.

Of course, it's possible that the credits are incorrect... the promo CD doesn't have the normal booklet and artwork, and the credits are on a separate page in the press kit.

According to the credits in the cover booklet, yes Gordon Kennedy did co-write Hanging By A Thread with Wayne Kirkpatrick.

Yeah, the song is great but Nickel Creek's version is totally different from the original. I think it's cool that they made it their own. :)

Wayne Kirkpatrick, the man who co-wrote it, did the original version on his CD, The Maple Room. He has been writing for sometime for various artists in Nashville, Garth Brooks is one, but he has written for many others (I just can't think of any more at the moment). However, don't let that mislead you as to the type of music he does. His sound is nothing like Garth's; more adult contemporary or pop.

I'm pretty sure The Maple Room is the first and only album he has actually done himself. It is catorgorized as Christian but his lyrics aren't always necessarily spiritual, as with Hanging By a Thread.

It may be somewhat difficult to find. If you go to a record store that has a good variety, they will probably have it in the Christian music section. Also, I think that most Christian book stores carry his music. Or, you could look for it on the internet.

Sorry if this is way more than you wanted to know. Just wanted to give you some idea of what he is like.
