Hey, don't get me wrong when I ask you this, but why do you like Nickel Creek?
I like them because they are really original, and they are not fakes like some people out there are. How about you?

The way they embody passion.

Because they sound good. As y'all should know, image is irrelevant, I wouldn't care if Nickel Creek was a cover name for some guy who made the whole album on his computer with synthesisers and vocoders. Of course it boosts their appeal to some people that they're nice people who share a passion for music, but it's not really a factor for me. I would buy the record if they came in public and told everyone where they could stick it, because all that's important is their music. What IS cool though, is that although there *are* (sorry, not trying to offend anyone) too many christianity references in the album, they don't seem to try to force it on anyone else...I love nickel creek btw, so don't shout at me.... [eek!!]

I like Nickel Creek because thier music gave me goosebumps from the first time I heard it. I am only 16 and live in arizona so this music isnt real big here. But there is just something about that intreges me to listen. It is wonderful that such great musicians as they are sound so wonderful together

I agree about the goose bumps but I think thats what all us creeksters have in common: The goosebumps. lol I like their instrumental music simply b/c of the intricate weavings of eachothers instrument and sound blending together soo beautifully. Not to mention the voices. They are soo high spirited and earth set but their music takes us up to the highest clouds. If that isn't enough reason I dont know what is.

Image is not irrelevant, tho it is not nearly as much as most of the world thinks, I believe.
I like NC b/c of their amazing musicianship and passion, and b/c their solid roots and progressive attitude.
they put it all out there for us to take in, and I dont think a guy with a synth could ever come up with a result even close.
it's about the music of course, but good music is always much more than just music.
sorry you dont care for the christian references, but I admire them for it, b/c they obviously have a passion for their faith and what it's all about, and it's in all their life...including their music (and in my opinion it's hard to express it well these days it seems). whether you're a christian or not I think that's admirable.

Ah, I came across a bit badly there, of course I admire them hugely for standing up for and representing what they believe in, that's not an issue, I don't have a problem with them! Just to make that clear...
The thing about their Christian references is that those references absolutely embody who they really are. It's not a stage persona, as (unfortunately) is the case for some Christian bands... it's a deep, honest belief that pretty much permeates every decision they make and everything they do. And for an artist that *isn't* in the Christian music genre, that's an almost unheard-of commitment to faith, which I really admire and respect.
My own experience is that while they're very true to their faith, they absolutely don't shove it down other people's throats, and they seem really respectful and tolerant of other viewpoints.
I'd say their parents and their faith did an amazing job of instilling good values, and that is part of why I have so much respect for them... not to mention that the music may well flow from them as it does *because* of their connection to Spirit.

good call Chip!:) it makes me happy too, to see that they are so honest and up here in Boston, there's a lot of people who don't know about country/bluegrass and they listen to music that really doesn't have anything to it, it's not really something that you can remember and connect with faith...no offense to anyone out there who likes Nelly and Ja....but being a person of faith myself, it makes me happy to know that there are other people out there who are not afraid to stand up for what they believe in....hehe....:D

i don't know where to begin! well i totally agree with the goosebumps thing! all i know is that no matter where i am in life i always find happiness and comfort in Nickel Creek's music. i admire them so much for the people they are. their music has opened me up to so much more in life and i know that there will never be a time when i stop listening to Nickel Creek. there are not many people like Nickel Creek left in this world and i'm just sooo happy that i am able to have them and their music as a part of my life!! and the fact that they are totally awesome in genral does play some role in it!:)

It's hard for me to say all the reasons why I like NC. I think their talents, voices, personalities, stage presence, and messages are my main reasons but that really doesn't seem to be saying enough. They have introduced me to great music by other people that I would not have listened to otherwise. They inspire me to be passionate in what I do, to do it to the best of my ability, and most importantly to do it for the Lord. I agree with everything Chip and mandoBob said, as well.:D

I like Nickel Creek becuase:
A.) They have a unique quality of sound found nowhere else.
B.) They are not full of themselves and are very down to earth.
C.) They are talented musicians that aren't afraid to try new things and expand upon what they have.
D.) They are one of two Christian bands that I believe are sincere in what they stand for. (No offense to anybody).
E.) I, as a mandolin player, am inspired by their creativity.
The list goes on and on, but you get the idea.

Just out of curiosity, ThileFan , what is the other Christian band that you believe is sincere in what they stand for?

I was first hooked by the Lighthouse song. My father had actually bought the CD right around when it was first release, but at that time, I didn't really listen to anything country or even country-related. But I heard that song, just flipping past CMT, and loved it. Then, lo and behold, the CD was right there! (A sign, non? =)) Gave it a listen, and loved it. After that, I did a bit of research on the band (Googled their name), and gained even more respect for them. They're all around my age, but from what I can tell, they're not pretentious about their abilities like most musicians of their ages, especially not the ones who have never set foot in a recording studio!
Their dedication to their music is also very inspiring. They play well, but above all, they know their stuff. They know music, know how it works, which is so much more interesting than studio-created popsters who wouldn't know music theory if it jumped up and bit them! (I can't help it, I'm a music geek at heart! =))

All I can say for sure is that Nickel Creek has found a way to transcend all that is canned in the music industry. The music is from the soul and from the heart. Almost like ascending to the throne of God. I'm not saying that their music is religious in nature, some references are biblical, and I don't know enough about them to be judgemental at all, but they are truely connected. They have reached my soul in their newest CD, This Side. I am in a band and we have a mandolin player, we did have a violin player, but it seems like they all want to be rock stars. That's not what it's about anymore. It's about creating music that will take people where Nickel Creek has taken me, to a special place in the soul. When you see a band like this or hear them, you are so fixed on the experience, it is almost religious experience in nature. Nickel Creek has opened a new door for me. As old as I am, (46) I feel so much more alive for having heard their music. They have achieved. All of them are so beautiful. I sure hope they get out here to the midwest (Iowa, Nebraska, or South Dakota) cause I'm there. If they don't make it out here...oh well, I only hope that we meet on the other side. Even if I was only a doorkeeper in His court, I'm sure Nickel Creek will be playing at His side.

I love Nickel Creek now, don't get me wrong! I bought This Side August 29, and I haven't stopped listening to it! (Acually, The Smoothie Song is getting a little fuzzy.) BUT--I hated Nickel Creek the first time I heard them,[hide] back in January. The first song I heard was The Fox, and I may stand alone on this one, but that is the most goofy song I have ever heard!!! I used to make fun of NC with my cousin. Then, I saw this really cool video on CMT one day (This Side, my fav NC song), and at the end, lo and behold, It was NICKEL CREEK! I was in shock. A quick borrow of a friends CD, a few listens of A Lighthouse Tale, and I was officially a diehard Creekster!! [noise] (I even listen to The Fox sometimes.) I love Nickel Creek because they are decent humans, who can sing, and play magnificently! Their music turns any bad day into a great one!!
