Does anyone know how long Sean has been using his new guitar? I've been noticing it in new pictures and he used it at Riverbend in June but I wonder how long before that.

Does anyone know what kind it is? For some reason I was thinking it was another Bourgeois (not sure how to spell it), but does anyone know anything else about it?[think]

I thought he was using a different guitar at Merlefest back in April, but I couldn't tell what kind it was either.

i think it's the same name brand as the one he used before just a different model.

I actually asked Sean this exact question. He plays a Bourgois(sp?) guitar. There is a link on .com. He said he's been playing the same 2 for about a year and a half now. I remarked at how new they looked and he said you should see them up close.

Thanks for the input from Sean, Mostlydead. They do look very new and well taken care of from a distance. I bet even if they are marked up some, he takes much better care of them than Chris does of his instruments. I read somewhere that he broke the headstock on one of his mandolins. I also read that he once broke one of Sara's fiddle strings while doing some creative percussion on them.

The spelling for the guitar brand he uses is Bourgeois.

The 'older' one that he plays is a Bourgeois OMC model....with, I believe, an adirondack spruce top (could be sitka spruce) and east indian rosewood back and sides. He has a signature model as well, which is basically the same model, but with some different options...such as an adirondack top that comes standard.
The main one he uses (the standard OMC) is one that he got 'off the shelf' and just really liked, so he bought it. The top wood could be either engelmann spruce, sitka, or adirondack.
Engelmann is the standard top wood for that model (but, contrary to Mister Bourgeois' comments on his site, it's not that exceptional for flatpicking) And from what I can see in the grain of the wood, it's more than likely adirondack.

I think the newer one he has is the same model, but it's possible that it may be a JOMC (which is a slightly larger Jumbo version of the OMC) which has the curved headstock (the Bourgeois 'Snakehead') and the 'oddly' shaped pickguard.
The top is pretty dark, so I'm guessing it's either a western red cedar top or a dark sitka spruce top.
It's hard to tell from what few pics I've seen, but I'm pretty sure the back and sides are east indian rosewood as well, or possibly brazilian rosewood. Mahogany would be another possibility, but the wood looks too dark to be that.

:-)) Whoa! Thanks for all the detailed info! I looked at the Bourgeois website earlier and saw a picture of the JOMC and wondered if that could be the newer one he plays. So it's good to know someone else thinks so too.

By the way, I too think it is great to have some discussion here about something other than just how cute Sean is. :)

How could we forget? That's my point. All you have to do is look at him to know that. No need to talk about it all the time. Ya know, stating the obvious.;)

I talked a little bit to Sean about his guitar at the concert on the 7th. I asked him how he likes having his own model of guitar. He said it's a trip and he never thought that he would hae one especially at the age of 25.
He said that he loves him OMC cutaway and how smoothly it creates tones. He said that if I get the chance (in my case money) to buy one. I will never regret the purchase.

:D Cool! I wish I could have the chance to just talk about guitars with him. But I'm such a dork that I would probably not be able to say much of anything to him if I met him.

I think it is so cool that he has his own special guitar model. He totally deserves it.:)
