This might be better suited in the Off Topic forum, but I figured since it has to do with Chris I'd put it here.

Perpetual Motion is Bela Fleck's newest cd. Chris plays mandolin on it. Bela took all of these classical (mostly piano) tunes and re-arranged them with bluegrass instruments. I for one think that the album (though I have to admit, I am usually not much of a fan of classical music) is absolutely amazing. It blows my mind to think what an original, ground-breaking cd it is.

Anyone else agree?

Yes, I agree. Edgar Meyer helped arrange many of the tunes and of course played bass on them. Great great CD. Will blow your mind and impress your classical-listening friends. I played it for one of my friends and she couldnt stop smiling b/c she knew most of the songs and just got the biggest kick out of hearing them done so well on such a different instrument.
Be looking out for Bela's jazz CD, which wont be out for a bit, but that's next on his list. The Flecktones are sometimes considered jazz, but this newest project is going to be more Miles Davis/John Coltrane kinda jazz, so I'm very excited to see what happens. I have no clue about it, but I wouldnt be surprised if Chris ended up on that CD.
Have you heard Chris's classical composition called Caprice #1? It's rather amazing too. I have a live recording of him doing it solo. Wow!!! So I'm looking forward to Chris's first classical CD someday. :-)

I saw both Chris and Bela when they came to Mountain Stage in February (yes, believe it or not, living in Charleston, West Virginia can sometimes have its advantages! lol) It was amazing to hear them play together. They did alot of the songs from the Perpetual Motion cd and Chris also played You Deserve Flowers from NOWWAL. Then Bela played one of his classical songs by himself and when he was done Chris goes That is freaking hard to do on the banjo! I shoulda wrote that on my first post but I just forgot...oh well.

I really love the CD Perpetual Motion! The only reason I bought it was bacause Chris played on it and it won the Grammy. I like some classical music, but this was like the first classical album I have got and listened to a lot... There was one song on there that I played off the CD and then played the same song off of a CD of the instruments that the song was actually composed for and I was supprised that the Bela Fleck version was so similar to the original version even though the instruments were so different!
