I started typing this one out awhile back to post here but never completely finished some of the chords he uses towards the end so never got around to posting but here are some basic tips until I do. I don't know the name of some chords and just have fingerings for some.
Fingering numbers are in EADGBE order. I'm not into tabs much at all so hope this helps until a complete version is posted.
I was wondering if Nickel Creek has any problems with us posting the lyrics with chords on here. I looked for rules on it and didn't see anything so assuming it's okay. If anyone heard anything different, let me know.

Decided to finish this song up today. Forgive my lack of names for some chords, if they don't show up in my lists of chords it just gets a quick notation of numbers. I noticed some changes since I last posted just some chords.
Note on chord in bridge: x102-31x Seven strings?? What is this? Well, Martin has a 7 string guitar but that's not what this is. It's the only way I know of showing a hammer-on on the G string (G string starts on 2nd fret and ends on 3rd fret). Or, could be shown as 2 chords maybe like this x1021x and x1031x. Just listening to the song will explain it easier probably. There are other little hammer-ons in the song but this one seemed very necessary to put in here.
There is a second guitar in some parts so it gets a little tricky pulling out one main chord to use but these seem to work very well. The acoustic bass notes can sometimes throw you off too.

If there's a master of death, I'll bet he's holding his breath,

I'm a doubting Thomas,
I can't keep my promises,
'cause I don't know what's safe.
Oh me of little faith.

THANKS MAN THAT IS AWESOME
hey for the X3301X chord.. a fuller version of that could work 13301X ... you would use your thumb to cover that low E string. i know that from like another folkish song... maybe? i was actually trying to use that and it sounded good..
You rawk man...

Thanks for the chords! I had already figured them out but had transposed them all freaky to be in a better key for my voice. Y'all did a better job than I did.

There is a second guitar in some parts... Try this for guitar #2:
Slap a capo on the 6th fret and aim for the key of G.
(I'd type it out but I'm too lazy.)

That capo on 6th fret does sound like what he is using for the 2nd guitar part, it would sound great playing this song with another guitarist.
fbar58- That is a nice chord and it's like adding the note the acoustic bass is playing.
Great song. I was really surprised that Chris wrote it when I checked the credits. It sounds like a song a guitarist would write and there isn't even a mandolin in it. I wonder if he plays guitar too sometimes.

Lol, well of course he plays guitar. I doubt someone who never played guitar would just randomly come up with a song that good.

Well, excuse me.
He may have come up with the idea on mandolin and it was later done on guitar by Sean and they went with that version. Or is that impossible?
I'm getting so sick of discussion groups.

Impossible, no. Improbable, yes.

I just read an article on Chris in a guitar magazine I was looking through at Guitar Center. It spoke little of his mandolin playing skills, and emphsized his guitar skills. I've heard Chris play guitar at a few concerts, and he is very good. (Also) On his latest solo album, he played every single instrumen--all 25 of them!.......he's darn talented!

Interesting, thanks Emmie and fbar for that info and stating it without the attitude, it's much appreciated.

You know, its funny that some people get all worked up when they hear the truth. I just wrote something for my English class today about this...
I always tell the truth. But sometimes, well most of the time, I say it very bluntly. And it pisses people off. I don't mean to have an attitude, man. Thats just how it comes out. I meant no offense.

I would hardly say I got worked up when I heard the truth . Not even close to what's happening here. I was looking for the truth , simply wondering if he played the guitar or not, plain and simple. I am new to Nickel Creek and only saw and heard him play mandolin. All you had to do was state it normally as the other person did.
Some day you will realize that telling the truth does not mean you have to do it bluntly so that it pisses people off as you say you do, not a good way to go through life. I wasn't exactly pissed off, just didn't need or expect or care for that attitude when I am discussing something as simple as this.
I appreciate your effort to show that you meant no offense and that it's just the way you are or something. I do hope though that you don't think that statement then gives you the right to continue to act in that manner though. Granted, what was said isn't some major deal but I felt the need to clarify some things.
If you quote me after this, please use the entire quote and not pull a sentence out of context. Although I am thinking of just not coming back here anymore, don't need this crap anymore, too much like high school I finished 33 years ago.

Chris used to play guitar for Nickel Creek back when they were first starting out and Sean played mando. Also I have heard of (but haven't heard them) Chis playing guitar on a few songs that he wrote and doesn't play mando at all. And thirdly (is that a real word?) I heard of Chris having to play guitar for almost half a concert cause both Sara and Sean were sick and Chris and mark didn't want the audience to be dissapointed. :)

I don't know why, but I was thinking of Can't Complain. I think these are some of the chords for Can't Complain. Anyone want to verify?
