I shall be heading out Wednesday the 22nd to see the first of 5 shows in a row in Decorah, Iowa followed by Evansville, Ind, Wheaton, Ill, and Milwaukee and Stevens Point in Wisconsin. I will be handing out WSTFD promo matchbooks and flyers promoting Sean's new CD after the shows. I'm a member of the Sugar Hill Street Team and get the items from them. So come and say hi if you see me. The first person who brings me something green or gray will get a live CD from the last tour from October 2005. If anyone else who is going to any of these shows or if anyone wants to add anything to this thread, please feel free to. I will try to update as often as possible once I head out. I can't wait!!!

High five mate! I went to five in the UK last month and they were all AWESOME - you're in for a real treat. Should you see Mr Thile tell him I think The Strokes' CD is awesome. Going to see them live in June off the back of his recommendation and our air-guitaring ;) He gives good tips, that guy.

Yeah the Strokes are awesome. I've talked to Chris about them in the past too. The Strokes are coming here in April and I'm going to try to catch them. I'm totally psyched for these shows!!!

I'll be there in Wheaton. I can't wait to see NC, and the joy them having the Ditty Bops with them again, it's gonna be great. Anyone know if it's a taper friendly venue?

I'll be seeing NC again in Urbana on April 10!! How lucky am I?!

I am also going to be at the Wheaton show.

I've got a question though. I've never been to the Edmon Memorial Chapel. From the pictures I've seen online, it looks like an actual chapel (with organ and everything). I've never seen them in a setting like this (I've seen NC at Schuba's and MAS at the Metro).

Anyway my question: is this concert supposed to religiously-themed or something similar to that? With all the excellent venues in the Chicagoland, I think it's a bit odd they picked Wheaton College.

Yeah, it's a bit of a bizarre question. I'm sure it'll be a great show, whatever the case.

The venue for the Wheaton show is actually a 2400 seat chapel. They are in the middle of a college tour so I wouldn't expect it to have any religious overtones despite the ideas of the college.

I caught the show last night at Victory Theatre and thought it was fantastic. It's just a little over a 3 hour drive from Indy, and outside of Chicago which I wasn't available for Saturday, the closest to me. It was a really fun show. More banter than I'd heard in a while which is always entertaining coming from them. The Ditty Bops opened, it was my third time seeing them- and as one of the Creek mentioned- you just can't watch them without smiling, they're just so fun. I'm excited to hear their new album in May. Anyway, the show was great. I think maybe Chris was a little under the weather. You'd never know it by the way he played, or talked but he just sounded a little hoarse vocally. I have to say my two favorite things about the show last night- first musically was the House Carpenter. It's never been one of my favorite songs, but last night- hearing it with an increased tempo and full out harmony from all three on them through part of it- gave it a completely different feel. (I'd LOVE to get a recording of them doing it this way- if anyone has one, pm me) And secondly, Chris clogging with Mark. All that time on the road, I suppose makes you want to learn different things. :) Anyway, definitely worth the drive and the 2:30 am return home, to have to work first thing this morning... How I missed that Evansville's time was an hour earlier than Indy, I'm not sure. e-rock2, I hoped to catch you after the show. I even had my green pen ready, but I must've headed out the opposite door. I was bummed, I've been wanting to get some of those matchsticks. :) Anyway, a super fun show. Anyone else make the trip?

Darn! You weren't supposed to say it was so good! I had a ticket and then thought better of it. 30 bucks gone for good, but it's a four hour drive from Cincinnati. I would've hated myself today, and now I'm only mildly angry. [lolol]

Glad you had a good time!

Hey Liz!

Your story sounds identical to mine! I drove down to Evansville from Indy. The drive down was great because I decided to take a more scenic route than just taking 70W to 41S. I ended up getting there 2+ hours early because I A.) Forgot that I didn't need to compete for a place near the stage since it was assigned seating and B.) Didn't take the timezone difference into account. This was my 5th Nickel Creek show and the second time I've seen them with the Ditty Bops. The show was great as usual. I definitely enjoyed the faster pace of House Carpenter. There were so many times I wanted to jump up and start dancing during both the Ditty Bops and Nickel Creek performances, but that was the most subdued crowd I'd ever seen. No shimmying (like my sister Kate), no head-bobbing...and then at the end of the song...suddenly HUGE applause. It was like Oh yeah...I forgot the rest of the audience was here! Like you, I had to be at work this morning so I had to drive back. Man was that miserable....but TOTALLY worth it. I wouldn't miss a Nickel Creek show for the world. Some upcoming Indy shows I'm going to are:

Tue. 04/11 - Eisley @ Harrison Center
Th. 04/13 - Margot and the Nuclear So and So's @ The Vogue
Wed. 04/19 - Rhett Miller @ Music Mill

If you make it to any of those you should keep an eye out for me.
You can't miss me...I have orange and chrome glasses and very short blondish-brown hair. I'm always looking to meet fellow concert-goers so I don't have to keep going by myself. My friends are poor college students and never invest any money in good concerts. You can't miss me...I have orange and chrome glasses and very short blondish-brown hair.

They will just be playing their regular show. They are out on a tour which stops at many different college campuses and basically someone from the school(oftentimes either student government or some student activity group) contacted the management and set up the concert.

I shall be by the bus after the show handing out the matches. I was definitely at the Madison show in October. I'm so looking forward to the rest of the shows.

The first show in Decorah was good, but not as good as the one in Evansville. Some of the highlights included a debut of a Gillian Welch and David Rawlings song Wayside/Back In Time that Chris said that they had just worked up and he would probably forget some of the words. This was the first show that I heard them do the Randy Newman tune, Short People. To hear Sara belt out this song is totally awesome!!! She really plays the song up. Other covers were a Sam Phillips song and Toxic which it seemed like they hammed it up a little more than last time out. Between both shows they played everything off the new CD except for Eveline once again. My favorite moment though had to be when they played the first encore, Sean, by himself, sang Hello...Goodbye. It is great that he is playing his new material during the shows. During the Evansville show, once again during the encore, he played a solo Whipping Boy. I talked to him after the Evansville show and he said that he would work up a few more of the new ones for the next shows. I can't wait!!! Those songs rock!!! Other highlights during the Evansville show were House Carpenter as mentioned earlier and an awesome version of Radiohead's Nice Dream. I also agree that seeing Chris clog with Mark was awesome!!! He did that at both shows. I talked with Mark after the Evansville show and he said that he enjoyed the fact that Chris wanted to join in. Ode to a Butterfly was a nice addition to the show too. They mixed up the set more than last tour which was a welcome surprise. Plenty of different songs that weren't played the 1st night. I'll post the set lists later in the week. Once again, Short People was another highlight for me. I talked to some great people at both shows and everyone seemed to have a great time as expected. Sorry I missed you Liz. They played a little shorter set the first night probably because of the extremely long drive...about 9 hours or so. Well worth it though. I hope Chris is feeling better after rolling his ankle. I should add that they Ditty Bops are always entertaining and the crowds seem to enjoy them. Plus, they even change around their sets from night to night which keeps things interesting. I finally bought their CD from them last night.

Gaaa! Stop saying it was so wonderful! After that little recap I really am angry at me!

*sigh*

Again though, I am glad you guys had a good time. Oh well.

I was at the Evansville show as well. I made the 3 hour drive there and back from Indy, but it was well worth it! It was my 2nd time seeing the Bops, and they were entertaing as usual. I thought their set at the Murat was a little better though. Nathan, I agree with you, the crowd was so much different then what I'm used to (this was my 12th time seeing them). Although I enjoy it when it's quiet so I can just listen to the music, it's nice to have some crazy moments now and again. I loved seeing Sean do his solo stuff....awesome. And it was nice to see some different songs thrown in too (I still miss hearing Out of the Woods, and more recently Toxic). Like Liz said, the banter between songs was more than usual, and very cool. All in all I think it was a good show..not my favorite, but still good. Oh, did you guys notice how empty the theatre was? I was in the 3rd row Seans side. I looked back at one point and was shocked by the empty seats! Maybe it filled in a little when NC started to play, but if it didn't, I'd be suprised if they came back to Evansville.
Anyone going to see Sara in Bloomington?

It's awesome to find some other Creeksters in Indy!!!

Sorry getting post-happy here...

Did anyone happen to get any pictures of the Evansville show? I forgot my camera. :(

Oh, and one more thing...who was the girl who came up on stage during the Bops set? She had some guts to do that!

I taped the show--give me a week or so and I'll offer some B&Ps in the trading area. I think you'll like it, though the somewhat unpleasant high-end brittleness that their PA inflicts on their vocals is well-preserved. It gets better a few songs into their set, which accords with my memory of the show.

After the show, a photographer approached me about trading some pics for a copy of the show. I don't know if these will be digital files or actual pics (I suspect the latter since he looked pretty serious about it and apparently had permission to take the pics. But if I can get the files I'll try to make them available.

And I came from Dayton, so you Indy types complaining about the lateness of the hour when you got home . . . ;)

Oh--I also thought Short People was great, though I think most everyone around me was oblivious of the Tom Bombadil/Hobbits/Short People chain of connections, as they all had puzzled looks on their faces!

The Wheaton show was the best of the bunch that I've seen so far. Nice Dream was amazing as usual and Chris' solos in Smoothie Song were great. I was happy to see The Weight thrown into the Fox as it keeps the song interesting for me. They did Up on Cripple Creek(also by the Band) mixed with the Fox the next night in Milwaukee. The highlight of the show was definitely the encore. Sean came out and did a solo acoustic Whipping Boy again and Chris(also solo) played an unreleased song that I had heard him do last year in April at one of his solo shows. I'm guessing the song is called Set Me Up With One of Your Friends. The song is simply hilarious and is a must hear. Sara then came out with everyone and played another surprise song, Hank Williams Sr.'s Hey Good Lookin'. They then ended with Doubting Thomas. Short People went over really well as usual and it does seem like most people who attend these shows aren't familar with this song. It was simply an amazing show.

The Milwaukee show was right behind the Chicago show as far as they go so far. Great song selection again. Sean introduced Toxic as being a song by a working mother just trying to get by. He even joined in for part of a verse a little at the end too. Can't Complain went over well again too as they have brought the drama of the song back by having Sara play the same notes over and over again by herself like the song originally was played. Then out of nowhere Chris suddenly screams the vocals. Encores again were the highlights for me. Chris came out solo first and played a Bach piece. Yes, that Bach, the classical composer. That was the first time at a Nickel Creek show that I had seen him play Bach. I've seen him do it at a MAS show and a solo show and even once after a show, but never during a Nickel Creek show was that was a major treat. Sean then(also solo) played another new song, Coffee. It was great to hear yet another solo song from him. Sara then came out with Sean to play a Jon Brion song, Same Mistakes which was also awesome. They then ended the evening with the Gillian Welch and David Rawlings song once again. Out of the Woods made its debut for these shows for me and sounded great too.

The Ditty Bops sure know how to work a crowd. Their show in Wheaton was great too. It was fun to see as many as 9 people from the audience up on stage shaking it to their song Sister Kate. They had people up on stage in Milwaukee too during that song. They have deinitely grown on me as now I've seen them a number of times opening for Nickel Creek. I can't wait for the last show tonight. I've enjoyed these shows immensely.

Sean performing Whipping Boy was also one of the highlights of the evening for me. He seemed so nervous. Does he have any plans to do a small solo tour? I'd definitely be about that one. I was also blown away by Sara's rendition of Short People. Even better then when I heard it this past fall. It even put the version they had on their my space page to shame. I love the way she can manipulate her voice. Wow.

*Adele, I even looked for you thinking, maybe just maybe you made the trip... I wish I could tell you it wasn't worth it. But, it's Nickel Creek. It's always worth it. :)

*Shawn, I'd love to B&P for this show when you're done with it.

*Nathan, you mean there's someone else in Indianapolis who's actually heard of Eisley and Margot and the Nuclear So and So's?! Well I guess I mean both of them b/c obviously Margot &TNSAS are from here... I'm hoping to catch both of those shows, so maybe I'll catch you at one or the other. Knowing someone else from Indy who actually has good music taste would be nice. I've decided there just aren't many around here. :)

Liz, according to Sugar Hill, Sean has no plans to do a solo tour. That's why they didn't make up any posters of his new CD. They just made little flyers that I've been handing out. You just have to fly out to L.A. to Largo to catch some more of the songs.

I just got back from Milwaukee and still coming down from an excellent concert despite some problems I had.

I thought the concert ROCKED they did every song well. I was so thrilled that they did Big Sam Thompson. I think I was the only one in my area who knew what the song was from the beginning to end. I also enjoyed them doing This Side I don't know why but I did. Ode to a Butterfly was also a good one that they played. I thought the acoustic encore was awesome as well. I thought it was a neat idea to have each of them do a solo to show their different musical styles and likes.

I did have some problems with other people in the audience though. The front row stood for the whole time. People in the back tried to sit down but the couldn't see do to the front row people. I especially had problems with it because my bum leg was giving me problems last night so I got to see a lot of butts. I also had, ahem, an interesting couple that sat next to me. For some reason the wife wanted to stand on my left while her husband was on my right so the whole concert she would either lean over me or squeeze around or over me many times during the concert.

My last show in Stevens Point was awesome. There was definitely a great vibe there that started out strong and got better as the show went along. It really picked up when they allowed people towards the front of the stage. Sometimes the seated shows can be slightly lacking in energy compared to the general admission ones. Some highlights for me were Helena, Nice Dream, and Smoothie Song all played consectively. Short People and Toxic rocked as usual. The encore consisted of Sean coming out solo and performing Hello...Goodbye once again. Chris then came out and again played Set Me Up With One of Your Friends which went over big. Sara then played a cover of Dig a Hole in the Meadow with Sean and Mark hamboning(was awesome) and then they finished up with Why Should the Fire Die? A great way to end my extended tour. I met a lot of great people afterwards and generally had a blast. Special thanks to Nickel Creek for being so amazing and equally great people.

Last night was a top night!!! The school I think thought we couldnt be that close and I m sure NC manager gave us the clear to go up. I was just mad that I was in 2 nd row and did nt make it up there fast enough. Pics still turned out ok after that, I think 1 of the highs was early going from This side sean solo (poor boy was sick and sounded better as the night went on) to reasons why sara solo, I ve heard it like that before and I am not quite sure why it floored me like it did last night, Great set list overall!! When u come back down was great, and it half satisfied the people in the front row, that before and after were like Lighthouse this lighthouse that, and they were upset after the show. and most of them dont have This side... ugh! Someone more like you and helena was a high both sound better in concert, seans voice improved sence he was sick and YES I was singing along in front of him for that one, Great singing crowd last night but that one not so much.I understand about sean singing hello goodbye wanted coffee!AND who did short people first???? I cant think of it. Toxic was a shocker to the students, and nice banter about freebird!! Thanks mark for teaching the guys hamboning after the show!! I think they enjoyed Stevens Point too bad they didnt see more of the town! AND why is Sean sick every time he is in WI!!! Poor guy... good thing I m moving out of this state in May. ok see if this link works for my pics on my profile!!! http://uwsp.facebook.com/profile.php?id=185003459

I just heard the Evansville recording and WOW! I am madly in love that version of House Carpenter... madly, deeply, crazy in love with it! [lolol] Faster, a bit more fleshed out, and absolutely killer harmonies! I don't remember it sounding like that in Pikeville. I'll just have to start a petition to get it on the Cincinnati playlist and hope for an Evansville repeat. :p
