Hey everyone. I was wondering if anyone else has heard the Pickin' On Nickel Creek CD? Its a tribute to NC done by a bluegrass band. Some of the arrangements changed a bit, but some were pretty close to the original. Has anyone else heard it? What do you think?

Are u kidding?!! It's too early for them to do that. They only have three albums.

I knew it exsisted but I have not heard it. When I was ten I bought a Pickin on the Movies tape. I too can't believe its been going on this long. I mean there's nothing wrong with it, and some of the arrangements are interesting for sure, but I am not certain I would like to hear the NC one.

There's also a Pickin on U2 one. I like a few songs that I've heard from that one. I think a bluegrass group doing covers of an acoustic/bluegrass group is kind of silly, but they are done pretty well. The musicians can hold their own w/ NC. There is even a bit of improv too, which kind of mixes it up a bit.

I thought this topic sounded familiar. Here is the link to the old thread that we had about this. http://www.nickelcreek.info/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5746&highlight=pickin&on

Yeah, I found it interesting that you couldn't believe it when you had commented on it 6 months earlier or so. :D

Don't worry as sometimes I forget where I am.

Yeah, well, there seems to be a Pickin' on for just about everyone, save Yanni. I suppose that's next.

Considering I can't stand John Mayer, I'd imagine so.

Thanks. I couldn't remember which one it was. I remembered seeing this in Barnes and Noble (weirdly it's the only place I'd ever heard about it before now).

Hahaha. I actually like John Mayer and I still thought that CD was bad.

I almost bought the Pickin' on Coldplay but I've never seen Pickin' on Nickel Creek. Sounds good.

Pickin' on Coldplay? Eek, this is getting silly. Pickin' on Barry Manilow is right around the corner.

The pickin on radiohead and wilco are good ones, but that may just be biased because one of the bands my friend Darrell is in did it lol

This could go on forever. They have pickin on for every freakin band. Eventually they will have Pickin' On Pickin' On Pickin' On Celine Dion.

For those of you who want to hear great cover bands who don't suck, and play the songs in a different style need to check out:

1) Dread Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin goes reggae, mon. Very very cool and these guys are pretty talented. The only thing that might annoy you is the fact that the singer mimics Elvis and they even do Heartbreaker ---> Heartbreak Hotel.

2) Hayseed Dixie - A bluegrass AC/DC tribute band complete with vocals. Defintely a good laugh, but not because they are terrible. In fact, I find the arrangements quite pleasing.

I wish I knew more.... I will post as I find them.

I keep seeing it at Walmart but I didn't know if I should buy it because it is Nickel Creek songs but not them singing. The cd has been in the same spot since like February. Maybe I will buy it.

That sounds a little strange to me. Usually they pick on bands that aren't already blue grass-ish.

Yeah, and it seems odd to me that, whoever they are, I assume Nickel Creek are MUCH better musicians. And I only assume this b/c Nickel Creek are much better musicians than most everyone. I'm sure these guys are good, but what's supposed to make me want to buy the CD?

I can't speak to the first, but I'll second Hayseed Dixie. They're a real hoot.

Hayseed Dixie is a real hoot. Also, they have done a tribute to KISS and a CD of classic rock covers in their style. Always entertaining.

Don't they have like 3 or 4 different tribute albums out? I can't remember.
