Yup, Chris managed to sneak attack an F-Bomb into his new album. Ugh... Why? What does it prove?

Some guy will go It proves strong emotions, man! Leave him alone! Well, I hope that Chris loves people losing respect for him. cause I just lost a bunch of it. i thought Chris wasn't stupid enough to include it in a song. I knew he said it, but to promote it. change covering lyrics, please. Be a pal.

Welp, yay.

well, in Columbia i heard him talk about this... and this is what he said: yeah there's a dirty word on my upcoming album, i drop the f-bomb. its not my song though, its in a cover. people are not gonna like it. but you know what? it was bound to happen sooner or later you know? i mean i am not saying that it is palatable for everyone but i am covering a song, so if you can't take it, cover your ears, or your children's ears or... whatever. it's got nothing to do with me liking it or or you liking it, i like it, i chose the song. (that's mostly it anyway, the way i remember telling someone about it later anyway)
and for anyone who makes the argument that Sara changed the lyrics to Tomorrow Is A Long Time... i will be sure to ask Chris how he feels about that if i get to talk to him at the next concert i go to.
i don't use the word myself, but if i lose respect for someone who does, i never really respected them anyway, just an image.
there, my $.02 in case this thread stays. i would just as soon it be taken away. its a bit of a hot spot.

Wait... what song? I'm feeling left out.

Although my general view on the topic is basically that I don't care. Infact people complaining about it is more irritating that anything. As for how bad the f-bomb is I can think of tonnes more words I'd rather have him (Well, I refer to Chris just because of the original topic, I mean anyone really) not say.
Maybe it's just how often it's used but the f-word really doesn't seem all that bad to me.
(I don't personally use it because I find that unless someone is really angry, has just stubbed their toe, or is singing they tend to sound stupid if they use it but whatever)

We've already frickin' done this, people!!!! However, because the original thread has been done away with, I can't direct the thread starter to the original argument, thus eliminating any need for further discussion. Therefore, here we go again...

I know we already had this arguement, but we didnt know that it was on his album, did we? Well, i didnt know. atleast he didnt write it.

We had it when he swore in On Ice I believe. Although there may have been small discussions about their swearing in shows?

They don't need to write music either.

They're all adults and they can choose to say or not to say whatever they want.
They are just like all other people.
Whatever combinations of sounds escape from their mouths is their business.
It's his album, his singing, his business. If you don't like it, you don't have to listen.

And this has already been hashed out. It's rediculous. Leave it alone already! At the end of the day it doesn't personally affect any of us. Everyone needs to move on.
The F Bomb has already been dropped, someone is probably dropping it now, and it's going to keep being said by people and you know what??

The world keeps turning.

blahblahblah... i think i'm the reason that last one got taken away...haha sorry about that, everyone!!

hope this doesnt get me in trouble again...

i'm quite sure that Jesus would never say the dreaded f-bomb ... plain as day.

BUT

God looks at our hearts. we are all guilty of murder, lying, stealing, committing adultery. no one is righteous. not one. none of us seeks God. we've all turned away to our own desires. only Christ can bring us back. not our works or good deeds. all our good deeds are as filthy rags before the Lord. even our most pieous ones.

that gives me hope. that because Christ has chosen to bestow His love upon me for no reason but His own is comforting. i can't do or say anything that would take His love from me!! how amazing!?!?! should i continue in sin? certainly not. as a new creation, all things are just that... new. strive for purity, righteousness, and holiness. if your mindset is that now you are free to do whatever you please because your are under grace ... well my friend, i am fearful of the grace with which you are under. flee evil.

is Chris saying the f word EVER going to take away the Love our Savior has lavished on him? no. that's blasphemy to think! does that give him the right to have impure language spewing from his mouth all the livelong day?? that is between the servant and the master.

who are you to judge a master's servant? the master shall judge his own.

peter asked Jesus, concerning John (the Apostle Jesus loved ), after Jesus had just finished explaining to Peter his role and how he would die, what about this man? asking Jesus how and when John would die.

Jesus replied If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!

love your brothers. lift them up.

but really... is someone saying a cuss word the end of your world?? will you live and die on that ant pile? is it worth fighting over? dividing friendships?

Hm.

I'm extraordinarily indifferent when it comes to cussing.

I agree completely. I honestly could care less.

When I met Chris in April, he gave all of us a big long speech about it before he sang Heart in a Cage for us...not that it was really even an issue, but I got the feeling he was venting more than anything. I giggled when he actually said it because all the people standing around starting cheering.

I'll say this....using bad language in music is uncalled for. No matter what your age is, just because you are older, it does not give you the right to use that word as much as you want, and force it upon people's ears like Chris is in his new album, and just say that its not his own words and that someone else wrote them. For example, on his myspace, he explains who Chris Eldridge is, and he writes the F word, and writes afterword in () Bristle not! I quote the Coens Thats bull, he just wrote the word, he cant excuse himself by saying its not him saying it, it was them..that doesnt float.

Thats all I'm saying. Unless someone asks me to say something else, or creaker mocks me again, but that's it.

I'd hardly say he was forcing it on people, we know it's going to happen, if one doesn't want to hear it than they don't have to listen to the song.

but i want to. *tear*

hes just making it harder for people to listen to it.

but, Guster dropped it in their new album, too. Its like out of nowhere. haha.... its kind of funny. funny in the sense of you could easily filter it to make it sound better.

but the f bomb is different. It lets a lot of profiling go out. But, i'll just say darn.

and whats with the no quotation marks thing? it would help so much!

What everyone else is talking about is morals and opinions.... you're talking about religion.

If anyone is forcing anything on anyone else, its this guy. No one cares about your opinion in this thread if it's gonna have to involve God. WHo are you?? It's like you're not even a real person, you're a bible salesman/revivalist or something. Next time, think for yourself and come up with your own reasons why you think Chris Thile shouldn't curse. The bible is a book of stories... guidelines, if you will, to teach the children about morals, and you totally fell for it. You don't need to live your life by the exact words... in fact the bible has been rewritten and rewritten millions of times over by all different kinds of people who put their own opinions and twists into it!! You aren't Jesus and never will be, so give it up.

We actually had a good discussion/argument going until this guy had to ruin it with religion. AGAIN. It never fails.

Hey, maybe Honortheking went a little overboard there, but so did you.

For many people morals and opinions tie very naturally into Religion (as you say the Bible was written to teach morals). Granted perhaps the big speech was not needed but it was still ontopic unlike your little religious rant.

Back on topic, religion has told me not to use blasephemy, I still do just because of my trains of thought sometimes, and although I don't swear in church it's mostly for the same reasons I don't swear anywhere. I just don't care enough to put in the effort to argue with people face to face about any swearing I do. (That being said, my minister has laughed at me when I've hurt myself and said not nice things to whatever I hurt myself with)

And we're done. Because every time this comes up, no one can respect the opposite side.
