Well I've been playin now for a couple of years, and I would say first of all make sure you understand the actually notes and a little of chord theory...in other words, don't just learn the fingerings, learn why they make the sound they do, what single notes make up a chord, and stuff like that...is that making sense at all? [think har Also, get your strumming down well, after you learn chords of course, but the strumming of a song just makes it come together nicely. Well anyways, if you have any further questions feel free to email me, my address is some other posts so check 'em out there, cause I'm too lazy to post it (though by now, with all this other stuff I've typed it would've been easier to just type it out!)

Thanks for the advice! I picked up a book called The Complete Guitarist by Richard Chapman...has anyone else read this? If so, is it worth it for me to read it?

Hey,
What kind of guitar were you going to play? acustic(sp) or classical? i took classical guitar lessons for about 2 years and got really good at it, but i had to stop lessons last year and i dont play much anymore and im not as good as i was. [bang][sob]classical guitar is hard, especially when you get on the higher frets. i play a little with cords, but not much. i think ive heard of that Richard guy and i think he's good. im not sure tho. well, good luck! :) once you start, don't give it up unless you plan to for good.
