I was wondering what everybody's favorite mandolin players are. Excluding Chris...eveybody knows he's the best already (LOL). Mine are John Reischman, Mike Marshal, John Moore, Adam Steffy, David Grisman, and Aubrey Haynie. Are there more that I missed?? What are yor favorites everybody?

I agree with you completely, Haynie must be mostly a fiddler, his harder solos are done on the fiddle I've noticed. He is excellent indeed. Yah! The Darol Anger/Mike Marshal band ROCKS!!

yea- on haynies, a man must carry on he really wails on the mando solos. - even though i think he goes more insane on his 1st cd- [and i am into that insane push music farther than it can go right now]- but really appreciate his musicality on teh 2nd cd. you can hear a maturing of his mando playing a lot.
but hey- he righ tnow is the #1 studio session fiddler in nashville.- stuart had more recordings, but aubrey was on more cds that were chart toppers.
have you ever seen the abbrey haynie bluegrass band perform? they usually do gigs around nashville- but not too many of them. brian sutton, he, and a couple other people that can just pick up a storm.

How has nobody mentioned Sam Bush yet?? Sam is the one who got me into playing mando before I even knew who Chris was. He's still the greatest rhythm mandolin player around, without a doubt.

Yah, Sam is okay, but I don't like the sound of his mandolin...its so...well almost twangy. He, however, is a very good player. What did you mean by Rythm Player (Just curious).

Ok, I'm going to show my age here, but the player who got me first interested in listening to mando music is Jimmie Page of Led Zepplin. John Paul Jones has said wonderful things about Chris.
Also there are several Zepplin song with the Tolkien influnce like Chris' music.

Drew Emmit from the band Leftover Salmon is actually one of the mando. players that influenced me from the start. His fiddle playin' is as good as his mando. playin'. Vince Gill & Ricky Skaggs are excellent players as well.
