Chris is touring the UK in November without the How to Grow a Band, apparently. I'm going to see him in Glasgow, just wondered has anyone seen Chris playing on his own and if so what was it like?

I haven't seen him but I have heard him play a solo show. It's just him and his mondolin, like a folk act. It took the first few minutes of the set for me to get used to hearing him in that setting but after that I was fine. I plan on seeing him here if/when he makes a stop. Enjoy the show!

Like earendil said, it's just Chris and his mandolin. Sometimes he has special guests drop in too. Expect some Bach, probably even a couple of different pieces. Usually he will throw in some different covers that he doesn't do with Nickel Creek along with some of his solo material. He did play When In Rome at least once when he was at the Living Room in New York so that remains a possibility, but don't look for too much Nickel Creek material. I'm sure he will do some fiddle tunes too. Look for a whole bunch of the new songs and he tends to play more instrumentals solo. I hope that helps some. Oh and try to sit close because it will feel like he is playing for you in your own home. It usually has that kind of an intimate feel to it.

Thanks, must admit I was a bit disappointed when I found out the band wouldn't be there but I'm sure it will be good in it's own way.

I'll be seeing him on this tour too. Also disappointed the band won't be there, but Chris solo will be amazing - don't worry! Rumour has it the Tensions Mountain Boys will be over here sometime next year, so look out for that.

I've seen him both with and without the band and prefer the intimacy of seeing him by himself. It just feels like he is playing only for you. It is that amazing.
