It's this time of year again...the time of the Grammys! This year, our good friend Chris Thile is nominated Best County Instrumental for the Eleventh Reel. I just listened to it, and in my opinion, has all the potential to win. GOOD LUCK CHRIS!!!!! :D

Thanks for that link. I just heard Chris' acceptance speech for the Musician of the Year award at the Folk Music Awards. Very cool.

Here is the link to listen to the highlights of the show (including a song by Chris Thile and John McCusker) on Mike Harding's BBC Radio 2 program. Its about 40 minutes into the program.
Can anyone name the songs they are playing???

He's got a shot at it. But he's up against some strong competition. I'm betting on the Bryan Sutton / Doc Watson track myself, just because Doc's name has such recognition. But if I were voting (and I'm not), my vote would go to the Casey Driessen version of Jerusalem Ridge. It's amazing! Listen for yourself:

Casey is playing every one of those fiddles!

The real award is just having been nominated. The actual winner is the result of a popularity contest. I congratulate Mr. Thile for even having his name on the list of nominees. I sure wish I could be on that list.

It really doesn't matter that much. As expected, Bryan Sutton and Doc Watson won the Grammy.
Just like Dylan won the contemporary Folk grammy, and Springsteen won the traditional Folk grammy. It's almost always the big name that takes the award. That's why I say that the real honor is the nomination.
Watch for the Dixie Chicks to do well tonight.
(Of course, all but 11 of the awards have already been handed out before the broadcast even starts.)

Once they announced (well before the telecast started) that Rick Rubin had won the Producer award, it became obvious that the Dixie Chicks were going to take the top three. So my prediction above wasn't clairvoyance, just a careful reading of the clues.
