when i first bought this cd..i was quite outraged. made some comments that i probably shouldnt have. im sorry about that, i decided to get off the message board for a while, and do some more listenting. i played it over and over and over....i dont know how.......but i became hooked, so now i have to eat some humble pie. i never thought id have a cd that i listened to more than the first nc cd. i guess i shouldnt have doubted nc. so to all i made mad....im sorry...i guess i jumped the gun a little...thx to katiekind and jacey for not ripping my head off.........when everyone else was gonna....

LOL Lee! We probably should start a support group to help fans of the first album get through their first listen or two of the new album. :-) It seems to be a pretty common reaction.

Hi Lee,

Like you, I was also dissapointed. I have had similar feelings...there is something magical about the first album. Anyway, I continue to listen to the new songs, hopefully I will have a similar experience. **laughs**.

You hit your own nail on the head! This cd sneaks up on you. I wasn't that crazy about it first time round...it's so...different. But you keep playing it and it gets under your skin and up into your heart and you're a gonner!

Now, I like my crow sauteed in a light onion sauce with, perhaps, a nice glass of merlot?

Welcome back!

I just lurked on the first thread you posted, Lee, but I just have to say that I am so glad that not only did you give the cd another chance, but you shared your changed mind with us. have fun listening...oh and btw- if you get chris's solo cd, sean's solo and then the mutual admiration cd, you could have nc all the time :)

M.A.S (mutual admiration society) is nickel creek and glen phillips (of toad the wet sprocket) The powers that be have told us it will be released before too much longer, but no sign of it yet.

I have Chris's cd and LOVE it :) I have heard Sean's but I do not own it yet (I want to own it, but I am a poor college student so until I can convince myself that it is a practical purchase, I don't have it) I would highly reccommend either cd :)

There was a rumour about sara having a solo cd soon on one ot the other threads. I don't know if we have heard anything official yet. I would love to hear a just Sara cd though :)

Sean's Let It Fall is fantastic. Give it a try.

Mutual Admiration Society is a cd they're playing around with, with their buddy Glen Phillips. I think it's done (?) but don't know release date.

To add my 2 cents -- Sean's cd is AMAZING. It's mostly instrumental (only 1 vocal, with Glen Phillips singing lead) and is phenomenal. He's also got another one with mostly vocals (with him on lead!) coming out late this year/early next.

I have a 10-disc changer that needs to be filled, and NC/This Side/Let it Fall are all I've been listening to... hmmmm... maybe we could convince them to do the one-a-week thing, Lee! :)

Lee,

Chris's solo album is absolutely stunning. It's all instrumental and I think as close to perfection as one could get in any genre let alone the mixing of bluegrass, classical, celtic, and jazz influences. There are several songs that are straight ahead bluegrass, several that are a combo bluegrass/classical, one that is a jazz tune (with the sax player from Bela Fleck), a celtic tune with Sean and Sara, and a slow ballad-like duet with Edgar Meyer on bass that is incredible. There are no pop-influneced songs on the album. The one thing it has in common with This Side is that you'll be able to listen to it 30-40 times in a row and not get tired of it.

LEE:

Im glad you came around! Sorry we all kinda went psycho!

Sean and Chris's solo cds are all awesome!! Chris actually has 3 and I really cant pick a fav! And Sean has a new one coming out in the fall!

Anyway, welcome back to the boards!

I'm right there with you... My initial disappointment has given way to sincere admiration. Much to my own amazement, I catch myself obliviously humming many of the tunes at work.

BTW, I saw Nickel Creek with Nickel Creek with Glen Phillips at the Knitting Factory (Los Angeles) a while back. They did quite a lot of material together, though I doubt the awesome cover of Stevie Wonder's Sir Duke will be on the album. I'm really looking forward to M.A.S. CD.

As for Chris' and Sean's solo albums, they are both awsome and definately well worth the money.
