I've noticed something when it comes to Sean's contributions to NC... He gets little to no credit in the media!!!!!
Can't they listen closely and see how magical he makes that guitar sound??? I LOVE Chris and Sara, and they are both TOTALLY AWESOME, but so is Sean!!!!!
Maybe it's because i've heard his solo album, but i never knew how beautiful guitar music could be....
Sorry if this has all bee said before, but i've been very frustrated by this lately...
I LOVE NICKEL CREEK!!!!

He's beginning to get more credit, I think. As my sainted father used to say, sometimes the last horse out of the gate wins the race. My father was not the first one to say that, of course....
Sara is so pretty and articulate and Chris is....well, he's the Tiger Woods of mandolin players (read that in a review recently...neat!) and he so up-front and funny....they tend to get more attention.
Perfectly natural. What matters, I think, is that I don't think it matters to Sean. Watch him next time there is an interview and Sara and Chris are bubbling over with enthusiasm and answering the questions left and right....watch Sean. It doesn't bother him. He smiles at them like they are his precocious children. I think those three love each other and support each other and none of them have any hurty feelings over the others' successes, or if one gets more ink than another one, yadda yadda. They're real pros.
I will say, however, that I certainly expect to see Sean in some commercials, or ads for guitar strings or something. Are you listening, Madison Avenue? Mother talking here...

I agree!!!! And i know that Sean is just as much nickel creek as Sara and Chris, and i guess i'm just waiting and hoping to see so much more of him!!!!
I just think he's so incredibly gifted and the whole world should know it... perhaps, little by little people will begin to hear those guitar strings humming and strumming in the background....
meanwhile, i still love nickel creek, and my very best friend in the whole world bought me this side for my birthday, and i've gone through about 100 batteries in my discman!!!!!
i'm glad to hear sean in the forefront singing!!!!! YAY!!!!

i know what you mean but i think sara and Chris got more credit only because they sung lead vocals and sean didn't, but now that he is releasing another cd this year and he sung some lead vocas on This Side he will get more credit than he did. Also, he seems quieter than Sara and Chris sometimes, and maybe he likes not getting noticed all the time.

ya I agree with moonstargirl, he's quiet, and a lot of times the quiet people don't get noticed...that's why you gotta be LOUD like me....but polite at the same time..............but we obviously love him right?
I know I do! he's getting more attention now, and I don't think he really WANTS a lot of attention, he seems like a really humble person, so I don't think it really matters to him, as long as he's making music!

Sean is kind of the George Harrison of Nickel Creek. The quieter, more introverted person who adds so much to the music that people don't even realize. Amazing talent that will be recognized by all in its time. But I'm sure he has his say in everything, too.....like Chris said on CMT, his hair is spiky to butt into people! =)

Some of my favorite stuff from last night was off Let it Fall. The song Sean sang had a real Glen Phillips feel to it. Hmmm...wonder why that it?

I love The Birth...itsh Preeeeeeeeeetty........and I like Ferdinand and Neo's Song....but my fave is the Birth.....and I love the way Chris plays the mandolin at the end of let it fall........at least I think it's Chris, ya, I'm pretty sure it's Chris...what was the subject again?

I just wanted to add that I just cannot get over Ferdinand the Bull. I listen to that song almost every day and it has been a year! There is so much to it and there's a certain feeling it gives you... I cannot fully explain, but I love that song![nod]

I love the entire Let It Fall CD. I just can't pick a favorite song. I love how relaxing the softer, more soothing ones are though, so I guess I like all those the best. However, Ferdinand the Bull is one of my favorite instrumental songs to hear them do live, period.

this is what came to mind for me too...and then the introversion mentioned...all wrapping up to: maybe he doesn't want the attention. i can see as a creator wanting to share your creation. putting out cds, performing music for people etc. but in general, if i had to harry a guess, it would be that he's not naturally comfortable with a spotlight and that he might like it just fine that sarah and chris have garnered most of it in the past.

I agree. When they did a CMT News feature on them recently, they were talking about Sean singing some lead vocals. They basically said it doesn't really matter to them who sings lead most of the time or plays more solos or anything. Sean said that he thinks it is stupid when bands limit themselves by saying only one person can do this and another do that. He said you should just be a band. So I don't think he really cares whether or not he gets individual attention for his talents.
But, like some of you, I sure wish he would get more recognition sometimes. For example, when I was at the Ryman show, he comepletely blew me away with his playing. Even though I have been listening to them for I guess nearly two years now and have his solo CD, he still surprised me at how great he was. People who aren't very familiar with their music and live shows have no idea just how truly talented they all are.

Yeah,
I agree, the other members are good musicians and singers but Sean doesn't get enough credit for his work. When they perform This Side live, Chris starts singing lead at points. It's just wrong. Chris is a great singer but that's Sean's song. Chris has plenty of his own great songs.
Actually, if you listen to the recording of This Side, it's a dual lead with Chris singing some of it and Sean singing some of it... it's always been done that way, as far as I know.
I think it's an intentional, stylistic choice by the band, probably relating to the this side/other side aspect of the song. I seriously doubt it's Chris trying to upstage Sean.

Yeah I agree with whoever said it doesn't bother Sean-he may not like attention-I know I hate being the center of attention. They are all very humble, though, or at least seem to be.- must be hard with so much talent!
