1st things 1st!! Sean's official answer is: No, he would NOT eat himself.

How it went down:

Sara came out first...Chris a minute later. Sean wasn't out yet. Waited my turn, Sara looked right at me...blah blah blah (more on that later)...Did your brother ever make a decision on eating himself? The reaction I got was NOT what I was looking for. Sara asked me why I was asking. I explained the whole Danny connection and she said she remembered. Why? By this point, I knew she wasn't having any fun. I said it was because Sean needed to think about it. By that time, Sean was right behind me. That's when I got his answer.

Also...Sara doesn't really dislike hotdogs, she just doesn't ever get a real craving for them. Basically, they're not a favorite. However, she does enjoy beach dogs. I asked if she liked pizza or burgers or something. She said a good homemade burger is always good. However, I did not ask if she would eat herself if she were a starving hamburger.

So, to wrap this up, I'm not so sure asking this question anymore would be such a good idea. I actually feel bad for bugging them about it. So, if anyone sees Sara, tell her that the guy in KC is sorry. [guilty]

As for the REST of the show...

Pulled up and a building was on fire (hense 3 alarm fire title). As we got closer, I was getting more and more afraid that it was the theatre. It wasn't, thank the Lord. It was the building across the street. Firetrucks were everywhere. (see photos)

When we finally got in the theatre, I got to meet Jenn right away. That was awesome!! Bought a shirt. (see photo)

Show started...I have no words. Those who have seen them live already know, those who haven't...you'll never know until you go!! I expected a great show. What I didn't expect was a 5 minute break to talk about baseball and the gun on Sean's shoe. I wanted to bring these people home w/ me. Got to hear Nirvana, too. Lithium. My fave!! (see photo)

http://members.cox.net/jholzhey/temp/theCreek.jpg

By the way, what's the basist's name? I couldn't hear over the applause.

Saw some people come in late. I think it was Katy. [lolol] One of the girls looked like Katy's best friend (can't remember name...sorry :( ). Still not sure if that was them, though. During intermission, I spotted a group w/ that same familar girl just off to the right and up a bit from us. Wondered if it was indeed Katy and bunch. Didn't worry about it.

Rest of show...2 encores. The 2nd was unplugged. Singing along w/ NC for When You Come Back Down (favorite NC song)...still, no words. The second unplugged song was a hymm that my 2nd mom knew, but I didn't. Sara never ceases to amaze me. She has the most beautiful voice of any woman on the planet (IMHOTY).

After the show...

Finally got the nerve to go up and ask...Are you guys from Oklahoma? Yep...Katy's group. Awesome again!! Only wish you could've stayed around, but I can definitely understand.

Walked down to the stage where everyone else was waiting for SS&C to come out. Yelled out...Anybody here named Stu? No stu.

After waiting FOREVER, Sara came out, follwed by Chris, then Sean. You know the hotdog stuff already, so here's the GOOD stuff....

Of course, I ignored Chris and waited to talk to Sara. When she looked at me, I was shaking. Very first thing I said was, I never thought I'd love a band more than or as much as I love the Beach Boys. Sara liked that. That was followed but more frantic praise.

Next was Sean. Didn't say much. I did tell him about Katy having to take off right after the show to drive back to OK. I said something about wanting to make it to one of the CO shows.

Last, but not least...Chris. First thing I said, Chris, you are the Brian Wilson of Nickel Creek. Your falsetto is amazing. Chris liked this a LOT!! I blew him away w/ that one. Not that it was a surprise to me, especially after Sara's reaction, but Chris went on about how BW is a major influece of his. That's the most rewarding paying a compliment has ever been for me. He then told me that Sean does an awesome Warmth of the Sun. I can only hope that NC starts doing Beach Boys & Brian Wilson songs in their shows.

Of course, I thanked them all and got autographs. Notice who Chris made his out to. (see photos)

To wrap up, I share with you the moment that I have been waiting for since the very first time I ever saw NC on CMT. The name of the file is very appropriate...because she is a beauty, and I was a complete emotional mess. No tears, though. Just lots of nervous shaking. (see photo...notice file name)

Cool pics. We were inside having a drink when the sirens started. I'm accustomed to hearing a lot of sirens in that part of town, but was curious when I saw them stop close by. We heard murmurs of everything from a shooting to a car wreck and finally that it was a fire.

Anyway, the show was incredible. It took me a little while to get used to sitting down during a show (I usually see live music in clubs), but I was so into the music that I soon got over it. I had to laugh when they came out for the encore and Sara commented You're all still standing. That's so cool. It made me wonder, have many of you guys seen them in small club settings where everyone is standing close to the stage? To me that would be the ultimate.

I've probably rambled on enough for now. I'm sure I'll be talking about this show for the next week, or month, or....well, until I see them again. Awesome.

Just noticed this in your post Walked down to the stage where everyone else was waiting for SS&C to come out. Yelled out...Anybody here named Stu? No stu.

If you were looking for me, Beth and I had to take off right as they were finishing up because she has an important meeting at work today and had to be there before 7 AM. What can I say....we must be getting old. :D Sorry I missed you if you were looking for us.

take care,

At the Borders in-store on Aug 14th I was about 4ft from Sean. I saw them last Oct. at House of Blues in Anaheim last year. Standing for three hours is not the best way to see a show IMHO. People are always jockeying for position and you end up with someone that's 6' 4 standing in front of you.

I saw them last June in a show at the La Paloma theater (near San Diego). Its just a small movie theater, so every seat was good.

There's a jazz guitarist who puts on a sidewalk concert every Christmas Eve in a beach town near San Diego, Sean & Sara have been there the last couple of years. From what I've heard Chris is moving back here so I hope that he'll show up at this gig too.

The venue where their playing in SD next month overlooks a boat marina. I'll be watching from a boat (its famous for people gathereing in small boats and rafting up together to see the shows). With 6 creeksters in the family, all of us going to a show gets to be pretty expensive. My kids told the band and Sara told them that she'd be looking for them.

ER:

I agree that sometimes you can get tired standing and you can end up with someone blocking your view, but you can also get your view blocked while sitting. I just like being able to move as the music moves me. The shows you described sound really great. By the way, I love San Diego and am hoping to visit there again soon.

NC FREAK those pics turned out great!!!

I finally got to see them! I was blown away. Everything I want to say about them has already been said...and its all true!

Selling t-shirts was a lot of fun! It was really interesting to see the many different types of people at the show-and everybody was really in to it, too.
Between that and the fire, it was a crazy night! Lisbeth and I kept running back and forth taking turns watching the concert. Sometimes we'd listen to half a song and run and get the other person to see the rest of it. Kind of nuts! But as much as I wanted to be seated in the auditorium for the show, its okay...this weekend is the Four Corners Folk Festival with 2 DAYS of the Creek!!!!

We took a picture with Chris and I tripped and almost fell down. Haha.

Sarah that shirt is $30!!:)

Thanks Jenn! I hope they'll sell it online soon. I got the older one that was green at the concert I went to a year ago for $20 and then ordered the gray one from the online store a while back. But that shirt is way cooler than the other ones! Does anyone know why they stopped making the green ones?

Jenn,
This may be off-topic, but I'm curious to know more about the selling merchandise deal... was it worth it? Did you get to hang out with the band at all before or after? Would you recommend it to others? I've thought about doing it when they come around here, but wasn't sure what all was involved...

Thanks so much for that review and pics Bryan. Sounded like a blast!:p

Edited to ask: Did you say something about a gun on Sean's shoe??? Did you mean gum?

prinny

mmt,

For me, it was worth it for a couple of reasons. First, Lisbeth and I sell shirts and stuff at high school events and at university events, so we were used to the drill. Second, we basically paid for gas and got to see a great show that we wouldn't have seen otherwise. Third, we each got a t-shirt and a cd, which is really more than enough payment for the evening's work.

This was the first NC concert either of us had been to...we didn't really get to absorb everything in the audience, and we took turns standing in the aisle and listening from the lobby. But that is okay for us...we did get to meet them afterward, and we are going to see a lot of them this weekend. [noise]

Basically I would say not to go in to it expecting to join the inner circle or anything. It really is an opportunity to help out the group, interact with a lot of people who are just as excited about NC as you, and catch some of the show.

It really kind of depends on how you look at it! I can say that if they came back through Missouri I would definitely volunteer again...as long as I got to see at least ONE full concert while they were in the area. :p

Oops!! Yeah...I meant gum. It was so funny. Sean playfully lashing out at whoever threw the gum on the stage. Sara and Sean both did thier impressions of the sound of gum squishing under a shoe. Then, somehow, they started talking about gum like it was a hardcore drug. Chris was saying how these two have been influensing me a lot...Thanks to them, I'll probably end up chewing all types of gum. The gum was the segway into baseball. Chris said his favorite ballpark was Wrigley Field.

Their between song conversations w/ the audiance are so fun!! At one point, the bassist (name, please) started leaning on his bass and scratching his back w/ his bow...waiting for the 'Creek to quit yapping.

Thanks, Jenn... you helped a lot!

And Bryan, the bassist they're typically with (and the one that they were with in Bart's pictures) is named Derek. That's all I know -- no last name! :)

I forgot about the broken strings!! I forgot about the broken strings!!

Both Chris and Sean broke strings last night. How they ALL handled it and recovered was amazing. However, they HAVE been playing for like 20 years. Anyway, Sara said it rarely happens, and for BOTH of them to break a string was a real treat and that we would should really appreciate it. Then she said something about it being a lot more difficult to break a fiddle string. To this, Chris brought up the time he broke one of Sara's strings. Oh yeah, you did. What were you doing?
I was plucking your strings. (or something).
Oh yeah, you were doing rhythmic plucking. Pounding my strings.
After this, Sara said something like...I think that's the dirtiest we've ever been on stage.

Oh, yeah...I noticed that Sara walks around a lot on stage. Talking to Sean, doing whatever. Chris has little jam sessions w/ everyone. Sean...pretty much stays put.

I LOVE THESE PEOPLE!! [party]

Wow! Then I musta been in heaven at the concert in Cincy. Chris and Sean broke a couple of strings (they REALLY got into it) and at the end when they were playing unplugged Sara's bow started coming apart (the part that rubs the strings).

NCFreak: the hymn you refer to is Be Thou My Vision. They performed this at Cincy also. It was kick booty.

Yeah, I know that now. This thread is a year old. And her bow started coming apart like that during THIS year's KC show (6/8) as well.
