Why still "Unofficial"???

Why is NC.info still listed as the UNofficial fan club site? Seems pretty official to me, being the ONLY fan site listed on NC.com. And now being the host of the official StreetTeam forum, I say there's good reason for a promotion. Are we not worthy?

Interesting question.

I think of official fanclubs as ones usually set up by a band and/or its management, and run by people on the band's payroll. That may not always be true, but in at least some cases it is.

NC's management does help us out by paying for some of the bandwidth costs for the site. At present, we're getting something like 1.5 million hits/month, translating to about 166,000 page views/month, which is a *lot* of bandwidth and visibility for a site run by a couple of very part-time volunteers :)

By default, we have become one of the largest resources on the 'Net for Nickel Creek information, but I think that's as much a function of the critical mass of regulars who contribute here as anything else. Truth is, we've never really asked for the site to be designated official; it just doesn't really matter, at least to Matt and I.

Also, by avoiding any formal connection, the site can maintain editorial independence, although Matt and I do, out of respect to the band's wishes, conform pretty closely to their requests.
